EM BURROWS
Across her music, Burrows has explored the layering and collision of musical eras and stylistic vocabularies, with a particular interest in how different periods of pop music—particularly from the 1960s through the 1980s—continue to resonate within contemporary sonic contexts. From her earliest work (The Lammas Tide) onward, her output has been shaped by a consistent engagement with the temporal, emotional, and aesthetic qualities of genre hybridity.
Her most recent album, Travelling Circuits , inspired by her English ancestry, explores the reinterpretation of traditional British folk song through electronic music composition. This project marked the beginning of ongoing artistic research into the resonances between oral folk transmission and digital remix culture, investigating how sampling, reharmonisation, and electronic instrumentation mediate and transform inherited musical material. Her recent community-based sound installation 'New Forest Collage Radio', explored folk culture and oral history, represented as a spatial radio broadcast.
Alongside her music practice, Burrows is actively involved in broadcasting and community radio, using audio as a platform for cultural dialogue and creative dissemination. She was a radio broadcaster for 10 years at RTRFM and is the host of Wide Open Road: The West Australian Music Podcast. She currently hosts a monthly program on Tempelhoferfeld Radio Berlin.
